Seminole Wind
50th Anniversary of the Seminole Charter
Tia's for dinner; Sarah came and met the Zepeda's for the first time tonight! After "2 4 1" margaritas and some enchiladas we went back to the Hard Rock for a ladies night out. Live jazz, good friends, talk, and beer! It's been a highly memorable evening :)

Undercover Brother
Two police encounters today!
After class I came home and did pilates with Sarah and Denise Austin, "now let me see that smile!". We decided to get some Indigo coffee once our abs and buns were thoroughly stretched. We walk outside and there are undercover cops at the end of the street, blocking the middle of the road. All the neighbors are out on their porches, leaning, whispering, each creating their own versions of what is happening. Stacey comes limping away from her house to tell all us nosey neighbors what's going on. Another police car rolls up and a bunch of cops jump out and start running between the houses. Apparently, Stacey's kids were playing in the living room and a man ran through her house trying to escape the police. They started screaming and she called the police, fortunately a few officers were already chasing the man down. Within five minutes they had the guy cornered in the back of our neighbors yard. Lock your doors.
A few hours later on our way home from Vinyl Fever we decide to stop at the seafood market for dinner. We're sitting outside eating our food when all of a sudden, "Stop, Stop, Stop!" We turn around to look crash. A cop pulled a man off his bicycle, got him to the ground and cuffed him within a few seconds. It's so hard to watch something crazy happen and not know whats actually going on. Drugs? Stealing? Assault? I do know that I saw a safe arrest, it was nice to not have to witness any abuse of power. These Tampa cops sure have their work cut out for em!
Uncanny Leaps Forward
The grasshopper in many societies holds a position of honor and respect. In China they are symbols of good cheer, good luck, abundance, and virtue. As its name implies, the grasshopper moves by leaping and hopping. For those with this totem, it is important to get off the haunches and move. Take a chance; take a leap forward.
Those with this totem will usually find that things don't move or flow the way they do with other people. Progress is not usually made step by step. Instead, others may seem to be progressing while you seem to be sitting still. Do not become discouraged. When grasshopper shows up, there is about to be a new leap forward - one that will probably carry you past the others around you in your life.
Grasshoppers have an instinct for finding the sunny sides of mounds and other places so they can be exposed to the sun. They have a knack for being in the warmth and light and knowing when to make their leaps. Trust your own instincts and rhythms if this is your totem. What works for others will not necessarily work for you.
Grasshoppers possess a tympanic organ on the front legs. As they breathe, this organ is activated. By moving the legs in different directions they are able to locate a sound's source. This connection between sensing sounds and the legs is highly significant. Trust your inner voice.
Those with grasshopper totems have an uncanny ability to leap into successful ventures. This becomes even more true when they learn to listen to that inner voice and follow their own instincts. Sometimes grasshopper can show up if we are not listening or if we are afraid to make the leap off our mound. Many times such fears have to do with the fact that "no one else has done it this way." Grasshopper people have to learn to make new leaps. Life only becomes difficult when they refuse to move. At such times they may feel asif they are experiencing a scourge themselves.
Remember a grasshopper always leaps up or forward. It doesn't leap backward.

Keynote: Creativity and the Weaving of Fate
Spider teaches you to maintain a balance- between past and future, physical and spiritual, male and female. Spider teaches you that everything you now do is weaving what you will encounter in the future.
The spiral of the web, converging at a central point, is something to be meditated upon by those with this totem. Are you moving toward a centrol goal or scattered? Is everything staying focused? Are you becoming too involved or self-absorbed? Are you focusing on others' accomplishments and not on your own?
The spider has long been associated with death and rebirth. Part of this may have to do with the fact that some female spiders will kill and eat the male after mating. Because it is constantly building and weaving new webs, it has also been a lunar symbol. For those with this totem, this pattern is a reminder to maintain balance and polarity in all aspects of life. Through this polarity and balance creativity is stimulated.
Most spiders are actually very, very delicate. If you were holding a tarantula and dropped it, it would bread and die. Spiders are a combination of gentleness and strength, and they have learned to combine both for successful survival. This is an important lesson for those with this totem.
Most people have little or not contact with the bigger spiders, but they will often see a wide variety around the house and home. Most of their movement occurs in the dark, and they move into inaccessible areas. This reflects much about how to express the creative energies. Don't be afraid to employ it in seemingly inaccessible corners. Weave your creative threads in the dark and then when the sun hits them, they will glisten with intricate beauty.
If spider has come into your life, ask yourself some important questions. Are you not weaving your dreams and imaginings into reality? Are you not using your creative opportunities? Are you feeling closed in or stuck as if in a web? Do you need to pay attention to your balance and where you are walking in life? Are others out of balance around you? Do you need to write? Are you inspired to write or draw and not following through? Remember the spider is the keeper of knowledge of the primordial alphabet. Spider can teach how to use the written language with power and creativity so that your words weave a web around those who would read them.

The Bald Eagle
Long a symbol of spiritual power and illumination, eagles inspire people of all societies. Their energy is healing and aids in creation.
Water is the creative source of life, and living near natural water sources may be important to the health of those who have a bald eagle as a totem. An eagle hunting in the waters must be able to penetrate the waters, grasp what it requires and then rise out of them. All this reflects increased ability and need to learn to work with emotions, psychism, and all aspects of spirituality with greater control. It reflects teachings about true mediatorship being able to enter and exit the more ethereal realms at will.
Needs for those with an eagle totem:
- Involvement with creativity
- Willingness to experience extremes in a controlled condition
- Willingness to use your passions to purify, and to use your abilities even if it means being scorched a little
- Willingness to seek out the true emotional aspects of oneself and immerse yourself within them, and by doing so awaken a higher sense of purity, passion, creativity, healing, and spirituality
The feet of the eagle have four toes. Four is a traditional symbol for keeping oneself grounded and laying a solid foundation for oneself.
For those with eagle totems, new vision will open. Whenever eagle flies into one's life, opportunities always arise. Those with eagle totems must learn to see their opportunities and snatch them as they arise.
Eagles are symbols of great power, a power that goes beyond their actual size. To align oneself with eagle medicine is to take on the responsibility and the power of becoming so much more than you now appear to be.
